Northamptonshire’s Jamie Cartwright caught this gorgeous Mirror Carp from a secret lake last week!
Jamie made a rare trip to fish for carp, having been invited to a private venue which very rarely gets fished. Unfortunately the resident carp seemed very uninterested in feeding, spending most of the time cruising around near the surface.
With an hour to go Jamie was looking at a blank – so decided to wind in a rod and fashion a make do freelining rig using 10lb Drennan Double Strength through to a size 6 ESP Stiff Rigger. Bait was the remnants of a sliced loaf Jamie had taken along to make toast to eat!
“Luckily I found a group of fish cruising along the margins so I flicked a lump of slow sinking flake in front of them. The first two ignored it but the third fish sucked it in greedily and a very cautious fight ensued!” explained Jamie. “What a looker the Carp turned out to be, weighing 21lb 12oz, it has to be one of the best looking carp I’ve ever caught”
