The Northamptonshire angler had landed fish of 3lb 15oz and 3lb 11oz on jigs early in the day but was keen to catch one on a crankbait. He stuck with the method, trying various speeds of retrieve until he finally got some interest. First, he had a hit on the lure from a good fish that came off after a couple of seconds. A cast to the same area produced a thumping bite and this time, it stuck. The perch fought well under the boat before finally rising from the gloomy depths.
