The Rivers of Essex aren’t often in the headlines for big fish, but James Willsmer changed that recently when managed this chub of 7lb 8oz from a venue near his home in Chelmsford prior to the close season.

The river he fishing is one that was historically known for good chub, but over recent years hasn’t received much angling pressure, as its stocks have dwindled.
However, there are certainly still a few good fish kicking about, as James has found over recent weeks, having landed four upper ‘sixes’. One of those, weighing 6lb 14oz, came on the cast after as he landed the mid-‘seven’, giving him two chub for nearly 15lb in as many casts.
Well done James!
