This season, James Champkin has been tench fishing on a few venues new to him, one of which was a deep Cotswolds gravel pit.
Due to the cold spring his campaign started later than planned and had been very tricky. Although he’s only managed a couple of bites, one of those was this 11lb 2oz specimen, his PB. And, a few days later, he backed that up with another of exactly the same weight!
The water he’s targeting doesn’t allow night fishing, so he had to drive back and forth between sessions. Both fish fell to maggot feeders fished on heli rigs, cast into a deep gulley 40 yards from the bank. Here, James fed a mixture of 2mm and 3mm Dynamite Baits pellets, plus hemp, chopped worms and casters, as well as Sweet Tiger liquid to produce a cloud in the water.
Well done James!
