England ace Stu Conroy shares a heartwarming story about a dearly missed companion.
Every dog lover out there will sympathise with Stu Conroy’s touching story, after he very sadly had to say goodbye to Jazz, his beloved pet dog.
“Jazz was regularly exercised along the banks of my local Bridgewater Canal and the River Mersey by myself and my wife, Jayne,” Stu explains.
“On many mornings, often at first light, I would sit with him as the mist rose from the river and watch the bream roll. He was a lovely natured dog and brilliant with my son, Jason.
“Unfortunately, Jazz was six years old when he developed a tumour in his left nostril. During an MRI scan we made the heart-breaking decision to put him to sleep, as the tumour had began to effect his brain and tasks like drinking water had become difficult for him.
“On the 28th of February, we scattered his ashes into the river from the weir above the match length.”
In memory of his departed friend, Stu has built a special platform on the match length of the Mersey in memory of Jazz. There is also a commemorative plaque explaining why the platform was built and a lovely twist to anyone fortunate enough to draw the swim, as Stu explains:
“I have decided to donate a prize to whoever draws this peg in the next Christmas Fur ‘n’ Feather match and will continue to do so annually. I am sure this will cause a bit of a buzz at the draw with anglers hoping to draw ‘Jazz’s Peg’!
“RIP Jazz, you will be sadly missed!”
