Ian Wilson landed this impressive 16lb 13oz zander from the River Trent, smashing his personal best by over 2lb.
This is one of the biggest zander ever to be caught from the Trent, and it just shows what potential the river has for the future.
Ian used a simple running leger rig incorporating a ‘weak link’ and a trace made from Drennan Pike Wire. It wasn’t long before he received a slow but confident take on lamprey section from his margin rod.
“It felt like a big pike at first but when I saw the light reflect off its eyes I knew I had hooked something very special!”
This capture was awarded a weekly Drennan Cup in Angling Times on the 21st of October.
