Lee Chatfield and Tony King have been enjoying some great perch fishing on the River Thames recently, landing perch just shy of the 4lb barrier!
The pair enjoyed a great catch of over 30 perch, with 8 going over the 2lb mark. The biggest of the session was Tonys 3lb 12oz perch, which took a small live-bait.
They both used Specialist Avon/Quiver Combo 12ft 1.25Lb rods, and a simple float setup consisting of a 6 gram Piker float and an ollivette to keep the live-baits from rising up in the water. They then trotted the small live-baits alongside any features such as moored boats and overhanging trees, hoping to provoke a take from a waiting perch.
The Piker floats can be used for still water fishing with float stops and a link swivel or as a river float for trotting live baits slider style, using float stops at the top and bottom.
