Drennan Barnsley Blacks have just completed an unprecedented hat-trick of victories, following a convincing Stillwater Team Championship team gold at the weekend.
The team’s latest accolade was earned at Heronbrook and Cudmore Fisheries in Staffordshire, where a star-studded team of 10 posted a runaway 161-point victory against 17 other teams. That was more than enough to take the gold medal ahead of Matrix Dynamite Trentmen on 138 points and local squad Matrix Dynamite Stapeley on 136 points.
The team also posted four section winners from Andy Geldart, Matt Godfrey, Nick Speed and Frankie Gianoncelli. The latter two anglers also managed an individual podium finish, as Nick claimed the gold medal with an impressive 57.55kg from Heronbrook, using his trademark meat tactics on Island Pool. Frankie took bronze on the fancied reed beds on Canal Pool with 54.77kg of carp and F1s. Sandwiched between the two weights was in-form Jon Arthur who managed 56kg on short-pole meat tactics from Peg 5 on Meadow Pool to take the silver medal.
Barnsley now add the Stillwater Team Champs trophy to the Division One National and Winter League Team Champs trophies that they have already won this year.
