Thank you to Bournemouth, Dorset angler George Cornwell for this magical photo of his recent 12lb 6oz Hampshire Avon Barbel.
The fish fell to a paste wrapped boilie presented on a large running lead, with an 18-inch 12lb Drennan Gravel Braid hooklink through to an ultra-reliable size 8 Continental Boilie hook. The photo was deservedly “picture of the week” in last weeks issue of Angling Times.
George had taken advantage of the recent mild floodwater conditions and a big drop-back, resulted in the all important only bite of the day. During the spirited fight, the fish actually became snagged in some debris just out of netting range, so he bribed his friend Joe to wade in (carefully) and net the fish. Joe was successful in netting the superbly conditioned Barbel and both lads enjoyed a delicious pub dinner later (the bribe) to complete a memorable trip!
