Chub sessions don’t get much better than the one George Cornwell has just enjoyed, as he landed a raft of chub on the float, topped by this 8lb 2oz leviathan. He was fishing the Hampshire Avon, and his plan was to target a few chub during the day before getting the barbel rod out in the evening.
Having selected a swim with good far bank cover, he spent time regularly feeding maggots via a catapult, before running his 8g float through. Using a single maggot on a size 20 hook and 2lb 8oz line, he’d slipped the net under eight fish, including a few ‘fives’ and one at 6lb 3oz, before he hooked and landed the biggest chub he’d ever seen. After calling a friend to witness the fish, the pair watched in awe the needle of the scales spin round to 8lb 2oz. George says the width of the fish was incredible.
Well done George!
