Thanks to the Anglers Mail’s ace all-rounder Gary Newman for this wonderful picture of a specimen Hampshire Avon Dace, weighing 10 ½ oz, caught trotting with an Acolyte Ultra 14ft rod!

Gary teamed the super-light rod with a Shimano Rarenium reel to trot a Crystal Avon float, bulk shotted with an Olivette, to a size 18 Wide Gape spade end hook to nylon and maggot hookbaits.

A succession of quality silverfish and trout, plus even a river carp were caught – the trip being the subject of Gary’s Angling Adventures series in the mail at the end of September.
