Here’s Gary Newman with a fine brace of Winter Barbel – these were from the River Wye in Herefordshire and the subject of Gary’s “Floodwater Barbel Worth Wye Wait” article for his Angling Adventures column, which appeared in the Anglers Mail on 26th November.
Gary fished in high water conditions in company with Dean Macey and Adam Rooney, and managed to catch a number of Barbel to 8lb 2oz using Pallatrax Elixir-6 Squabs as bait. He was again using his usual Martin Bowler Specialist Barbel 12ft 1¾lb rod, with a Shimano 6000 Baitrunner reel and 10lb ESP Syncro mainline.

Gary was fishing one of the Wye & Usk Foundation stretches of the Wye, for full details click here.
