It’s not taken long for King’s Weir fishery on the River Lea to rediscover last season’s form, after Gary Newland landed this 18lb 2oz barbel.
With warm weather and heavy rain falling, he knew a big fish was on the cards. After heading to the weirpool and introducing a large bed of hemp and pellets, Gary fished a savoury boilie over the top on strong tackle. Weed was an issue and he had to cast regulalry, but his patience paid off when he received a slow but positive bite, with the powerful barbel surging off out into the river.
Well done Gary!
