“As soon as he hit it, Gary knew a good zander was on the end”
Warrington based angler Gary Knowles recently achieved his long-term target of a 15lb zander from the lower Severn, in the shape of this 15lb 12oz beast.
Living a fair way from the river, the number of trips he can make are limited, meaning he can’t always fish when conditions are ideal. This was the situation he faced last weekend, with the river dropping only slightly after being in flood for weeks.
The fishing, as Gary expected, was tough, but he had his only bite of the day when his legered roach was picked up and a very slow run developed. As soon as he hit it, Gary knew a good zander was on the end, with a lack of headshakes indicating it wasn’t a pike. After a ponderous fight he saw the fish’s white belly break the coloured water, and once in the net, he knew it was the fish he was after.
Well done Gary.
Well done Gary.
