The River Thames is widely regarded as one of the finest rivers for specimen fish in the country, and whilst its barbel, chub and perch generally steal the headlines, Gareth James has highlighted the waterways’ pike potential with this 31lb 8oz beast.
He was fishing in overcast conditions, and, having caught a few small pike, decided to try a different stretch in search of something more substantial. After a few casts, the move paid off as he had a take from what he thought was a solid object before it surged away. An almighty scrap followed over the next 15 minutes, with the boat being dragged off its anchor before Gareth finally coaxed the fish home.
Well done Gareth!
