Drennan’s South-East sales agent Mike Davidson caught this beautiful little wild Brown Trout from the River Itchen in Hampshire at the end of the river season. Whilst not the biggest fish its certainly one of the best looking! Mike caught the fish whilst trotting for Grayling with a long rod & centrepin reel – using a large Crystal Avon float. This pattern is excellent on faster flowing, clear water streams in that it can carry a decent amount of weight, and with its buoyant “body-up” design, is good at riding relatively turbulent flow. Mike used maggots on a Drennan Red Maggot spade end hook to tempt not only this Brownie but a number of Grayling.
