Drennan Oxford are this year’s Angling Trust Oxford Winter League Champions after winning five out of the six matches.
The final round was on the Oxford Canal from Kings Bridge to Walton Well Road. The canal was running clear and despite a few sharp frosts in the week the venue fished reasonably well. Due to the clarity of the water you needed to rotate swims constantly, fishing punch, chopped worm and bloodworm and joker to keep bites coming.
Winner on the day was in-form Paul Glenfield with 10lb 14oz. The Drennan Oxford team man drew in the middle of the Frenchay Road section and despite not fancying the peg he had a good net of mainly skimmers to 1lb on the pole and bloodworm over joker feed. His section win also secured his place as the top individual, after scoring 37 points over six rounds.
Second place on the day was Ian Young with a 6lb 12oz mixed bag from below Elizabeth Jennings Bridge. That was just enough to pip Tubertini Apollo Black’s Dereck Allen with a similar catch for 6lb 8oz.
On the team front, Drennan Oxford won the day with 51 points, ahead of ISIS Oxford on 43 points and Sensas A4 on 40 points.
