Neill Stephen is pictured being presented with the Drennan Cup by Peter Drennan back in Spring last year, for the 2010-11 season. The end of the river season in March just gone saw the 2011-12 competition draw to a close – and the Angling Times are now organizing voting forms to decide who will hold the prestigious old trophy for the next 12 months!
Pick up the current issue of the Angling Times for a really good run down on an exciting 12 months of the competition. Assessing the month by month Drennan winners from the year, Angling Times suggest the obvious ‘favourites’ for the cup are likely to be current holder Neill Stephen from London, Simon Lavin from Middlesex, Alan Stagg from Basingstoke, and Ken Brown from Tring – who all enjoyed an amazing season studded with astounding specimen fish. Then there were a whole host of anglers who also won one or two weekly awards who could all be in the running if their catches inspire their peers enough to gain a vote or two!
As well as the famous cup, the winner collects a cheque for £2000, with the 2nd placed angler winning £1000, 3rd £500, and even the fourth placed angler picks up a handy £250. All welcome to supplement the rising costs of chasing and tackling up for various big fish species!
The competition is voted on by all the past winners of weekly Drennan awards over the years – which provides a really good cross section of the best specimen anglers in the UK. If you’re a past winner of a weekly Drennan award, email [email protected] with your name and address for your voting form as soon as possible!
And if you catch a really big fish, make sure to get the best photograph you can and send it exclusively to the Angling Times for possible entry in the Drennan Cup…
