The Drennan Coors qualifying matches on the River Trent at Burton are really catching anglers imagination with another great turnout of 75 competitors. This was the best match of the series so far with 20 double-figure weights recorded.
Leading the way on Round 5 was Nottingham’s Nick West with 22lb 6oz from the new pegs below Bailey’s Weir. Starting on the waggler across to the willow trees surprisingly produced very little. A switch to stick float and bronze maggot, however, and the action started. He had a bream, two chub and a nice barbel plus roach and dace for a comfortable win.
Runner-up in a very tight frame was Adey Reynolds from peg 8 on Broadholme Island. He started on long pole with maggots, catching roach, before changing to hemp for a better stamp for 17lb 7oz. Third, again below the weir, was Nigel Bull who fished waggler and bronze maggot for five chub and some dace for 17lb 6oz.
