A good weekend for the Drennan Bordon squad saw Justin Mabere (pictured) help his team to a third staight win in the Avon Valley Winter League.

The latest round was fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal from Little Bedwyn to Great Bedwyn. Justin caught mainly skimmers and perch for 13lb 5oz and 2nd overall. Fishing chopped worm down the track and pieces of worm and red maggots up the far shelf he had a flying start with nearly 10lb in the net in the first two hours, before it slowed up when pike moved in. Things then picked up in the last hour when a few boats put some much needed colour in the water.

For down the track he used a 0.6g Drennan AS2 float on 0.12mm Supplex line to a 0.12mm Polemaster Fluorocarbon hooklength and size 14 Kamasan B560 hook. Up the shelf he fished a 4×12 rig on 0.10mm Supplex to a 0.08mm Fluorocarbon hooklength to a size 18 B560.

Team mate Simon Kiefer continued his good run, taking 3rd individually with a mainly perch net of 11lb 1oz, making it 11 pick ups in a row! With Joe Clark taking joint 4th with 8lb 14oz it rounded up a great day for the Drennan Bordon camp!

The team also produced good results over the weekend with Ian Dixon taking second in the Gold Valley Fours on Saturday with 123lb, which was made up of 20 carp from Peg 109 on Syndicate Lake. The Drennan Bordon team were 2nd on the day, and are now 2nd in the league after two rounds.

Sunday’s Gold Valley Open saw Mark Eves draw Peg 63 on Middle Lake. After five busy hours his 22 carp went 126lb 8oz, which was good enough for 4th on the day.

The same weekend, some of the team also fished the 80-peg Tunnel Barn Teams Of Four. Tyrone Hull took 127lb of F1s which was a cracking day’s sport but only good enough for 8th overall on the day!
