Drennan Bordon clinched victory on section wins countback after tying with Daiwa Dorking on 74 points apiece in round three of the Avon Valley Winter League.
Bordon’s three section wins to Dorking’s two on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Froxfield, Wiltshire, saw them claw back what could be a valuable point.
At the halfway stage, the league sees Dorking leading with 4 points from Bordon on 5 and Arun MG third on 9.
Team captain Nick Jones said: “We knew we had to win this round to get tight to Dorking and the lads didn’t disappoint with eight top three section results! With three rounds left, all on the Basingstoke Canal and Gold Valley Lakes anything is possible.”
Nick’s optimism seems fully justified following fantastic results for Bordon anglers in the Gold Valley Teams of Four opening round.
Stefan Gent caught 21 carp for a winning 164lb 6oz using pellet waggler at peg 114 on Syndicate Lake, then team-mate Gavin Millis drew the same peg in the following day’s open match with a similarly taken 151lb 4 oz, using a 7g Shorty Pellet Waggler with a size 14 Carp Hair Rigger on 0.20mm Supplex hook length.
“It’s important to keep altering depths to keep fish coming rather than just sticking blindly the same depth,” was Gavin’s Top Tip.
