Entering the fourth round of the Avon Valley Summer League 12 points behind pacesetters Guildford Bait-Tech, Drennan Bordon Aqua turned the tables at Surrey’s Willinghurst Fishery.
The Bordon Aqua quintet – Terry Malloy, Adam Lee, Shaun Barnett, Dave Lewis and Anthony Flint – won the day with 45 points to emerge as league leaders with 161 points to Guildford’s 153 with two rounds remaining.
Squad manager Steve Barnett revealed: “There has been a lot of pressure on the lakes so we opted to fish at long distance with hard pellets. Terry Malloy won his section with 49lb 12oz fishing 16-metre pole, Adam and Shaun were both second, Dave third and Anthony finished midway.
“It’s a great result but the league is far from over,” added Steve.
The following day, Bordon teamsters Matt Barnett and Brett Cooper both clinched section wins with 12lb 13oz and 9lb 12oz respectively in the latest Oxford Summer League round on the River Thames at Dorchester and Benson.
