Drennan Barnsley Blacks won the prestigious Match Fishing Team trophy on the Warwickshire Avon fielding the same bloodworm and joker experts – Alan Scotthorne, Lee Kerry, Matt Godfrey, James Dent and Sam Wildsmith – won were crowned 2017 World Chub Champions earlier this summer.
Feeding joker in a groundbait mix comprising Sensas Gardons, Canal Black, brown crumb plus 20 per cent riddle soil in search of roach and perch was the key to their success.
“We’ve finished second or third several times in the last ten years so it’s great to win this title at last,” said manager Glenn Lawrence.
Alan Scotthorne led the way with 8 lb 8 oz 8 dr of roach to win his section and finish third overall. Lee Kerry also won his section as Barnsley stacked up an unbeatable 59 points ahead of Sensas Starlets with 55 and Daiwa Dorking on 52 in the 14 team event.
