Drennan Leicester captain Nick Moss enjoyed a dream debut visit to Derbyshire’s Butterley Reservoir by winning an Open match with 17 bream for 50lb 9oz.
Drawn midway along the Ripley AC venue’s high bank section, Nick cast an open-end feeder 50 metres into 12ft of water to deliver a pint of casters to the deck, alternating double red maggot and worm tails on a size 14 Kamasan B560 hook.
“It was a slow start until I started introducing dead red maggots in my feed, which brought the swim alive.
My top tip for bream fishing on deep stillwaters is to keep switching between different feed and hook baits to find out what the fish prefer on the day,” advised Nick, who is planning a return visit to Butterley for a forthcoming three-day match festival.
