David Marris visited the lower Severn for a late afternoon session recently and wasn’t left disappointed as he banked this lovely 2lb 10oz roach!
He told us “The plan was to start on the maggot feeder then target barbel on the same line for the last hour of the day. With the current low water levels and clarity, I thought it’d be a good approach.
Using a size 14 hook baited with three maggots below a black cap feeder on a running rig, I cast just off the main flow and was rewarded with a mice mixed bag including chub to over 5lb, roach, and a few perch. But the real star of the show was this incredible roach of 2lb 10oz.
I’ve fished the lower Severn for 35 years but have never seen a roach this big. I’m absolutely overjoyed with what is the fish of a lifetime.”
Well done David!
