He told us “Pre summer rudd fishing is all new to me. In fact, rudd fishing that isn’t in flowing water with a loafer is completely alien to me. I’ve wanted to fish this particular pit for rudd for years. There’s always been rumours of a few big fish, but never any solid stories. Heavy baiting, bolt rigs and 12mm fish meals was how I was going to approach this little campaign.
I knew if I did a few nights in different areas there was a good chance I’d stumble a few. After huge preparation I still wasn’t ready for what I was going to have to wade through to get to these big Rudd. I did five overnighters over a two-week period. The first week (up the wrong end of the lake) I caught fish but no Rudd over 2lb, topped by a 25lb linear. That was a pleasant surprise but no big Rudd.
The following week I moved my attention to the other end of the pit. My plan was to fill it in and string a few nights together between work. To cut a long story short, over three consecutive nights I had over a hundred bites. Seventy odd bream, a dozen tench and countless Rudd. Five of which were over two pounds. These two being the ultimate prize on the final morning of the trip. It couldn’t have gone anymore to plan, it was perfect. Both fished weighed 3lb 4oz. It was tough, but it was worth it. A stunning pair of Cambridgeshire Rudd for my efforts.”
Well done Dave!
