“An exciting battle in the dark followed, and once in the net Darren, was ecstatic with the new PB”
Northern chub don’t get much bigger than this 7lb 4oz beast landed by Yorkshire angler, Darren Starkey.
Targeting a river in his home county, he’s been after an elusive ‘seven’ for many years, with his target finally met on a recent afternoon session. Fishing a small cage feeder packed with liquidised bread mixed 50/50 with a cheesy garlic groundbait, he used matching paste on a size 6 hook, which he moulded round a piece of crust for added buoyancy.
Having started fishing at 1pm, he’d had little action and was thinking it wouldn’t happen. However, on his third cast he had a delicate tap on the tip before it wrapped round. An exciting battle in the dark followed, and once in the net Darren, was ecstatic with the new PB.
Well done Darren!
