On a trip to the tidal Trent Darren Maloney managed this long 15lb 12oz zander in challenging conditions.

A big tide was tearing through, filling the river with colour and leaving it only just fishable. But Darren stuck it out, using a popped-up deadbait to avoid the invasive mitten crabs. When he received a drop-back bite, Darren hit into what he knew immediately was a good fish, as he struggled to lift it off bottom. But, after a few good lunges, he saw the fish’s tail surface before netting it. He was amazed by the size of what he believes is one of the best fish he’s caught.
