Kent’s 2008 Drennan Cup Winner & Shimano consultant Darran Goulder went down to the River Wye in Herefordshire recently for this wonderful Barbel, the superb photograph deservedly winning him another weekly award!  Darran wrote an excellent piece in last week’s Angling Times about the trip.

The big fish was part of a multiple catch and weighed in at 11lb 2oz – a really exceptional fish for the river.  It fell to feeder tactics, with a Drennan Heavyweight Cage Feeder filled with Dynamite pellets and Oily groundbait being fished a size 12 Korda Mixa hook and an ESP Two Tone hooklink.  Darran used a Shimano Purist Barbel 12ft 1.75lb rod and a 4000D Baitrunner reel.
