Well done to Hertfordshire’s Dan Sales who won a weekly Drennan Award in last week’s issue of Angling Times, for a huge haul of Canal Perch, topped by this 4lb 4oz fish!
With many rivers so flooded as to be unfishable, Dan and his friend Paul Goldsmith made a good move in choosing to target the Grand Union canal with mobile tactics in search of specimen Perch. By covering over 40 miles of canal over three sessions, the pair banked an astonishing 120 Perch on small rubber jigs, with the ‘4’ being the stand-out fish.
The lads fished 6ft spin rods with 5lb Drennan Supplex through to a selection of 2in – 4ins soft rubber lures, targeting features such as locks, bridges & marina entrances.
“I am actually falling in love with the line for my lure fishing. The fish seem very willing to take the tiny lures on it which is testament to it’s transparency in the water” reported Dan.
