One rule that many specimen anglers live by is to spend as much time at the venue as possible, and at times that can mean long hours and lots of journeys.
Stockton-on-Tees angler Danny Hewitt had to do just that to reach the River Trent, with a 240-mile round trip on the cards to get there, but was rewarded with this 17lb 9oz barbel, falling to a halibut pellet fished on a running rig. This fish wasn’t the only capture as Danny also banked himself specimens of 15lb 1oz and 13lb. They came from a stretch he’s fished for five years and smashes his previous 16lb 11oz best. On this trip, Danny’s wife asked if she could come along. Based off the results on this session, he says he might be bringing her again!
Well done Danny!
