Daniel Bouskila 3lb 8oz Grayling

It’s been a fantastic winter for grayling, but the best was saved until last, after Daniel Bouskila landed this stunning 3lb 8oz fish prior to the season closing.

He caught it from a small carrier stream of a southern chalk stream, having found the main river up and coloured. In bright conditions, the fishing was tricky, so Daniel and his friend, Tom, targeted shaded areas. Using trotted maggots, he hooked a fish in a deep spot, and initially was sure he’d hooked a trout, as anglers naturally are when connecting with a large fish on a chalk stream. However, as it hugged bottom and surged upstream, Daniel wondered if it might be a grayling. Eventually, the fish surfaced, and he was left in no doubts as to what he’d hooked. Safe to say, he was relieved when Tom slipped the net under it!

Well done Daniel!
