” The tell-tale head shakes and characteristic kiting confirmed it was the one I was after.”
There’s been quite a few big rudd caught already this season and southern-specialist angler, Dan Woolcott, got in on the action with this 3lb 7oz beast.
Targeting a northern venue a long way from his home in Kent, the property surveyor was delighted to land the fish.
He told us “It’s a tricky water, but fishing over a bed of dead maggot, hemp and groundbait resulted in a bite on my maggot hookbait, presented on a short fluorocarbon hooklink on a helicopter setup. As soon as I hooked it, I recognised it was a big rudd. The tell-tale head shakes and characteristic kiting confirmed it was the one I was after. It’s a great start to the season, and I’m really happy with this catch after all the effort that goes into fishing the venue!”
