Hatfield, Herts specialist Dan Sales has enjoyed a fine year to date, with big Perch, Zander and Carp – but this superb River Lea Chub, winning a recent weekly Drennan Cup award in Angling Times, possibly tops the lot!
Dan has been spending some time on the river this Autumn in pursuit of its resident carp and had noticed some smaller fish taking his bread off the surface – which he identified as a group of specimen Chub. Working out that they only seemed to feed hard at dusk, he went back the following evening with appropriate tackle in an effort to outwit one.
Like clockwork just prior to darkness they came out from cover to take the freebie crust offerings, including Dan’s hookbait – a massive piece of bread crust freelined on 6lb Supplex with a size 3 ESP Raptor T6 concealed inside! The end result was this superb 7lb 4oz specimen Chub.
Dan noted that in the group was a Chub which looked significantly bigger – probably around 8lb – we look forward to hearing more about this fish later in the season!
