Dan opted for a fairly large, six-inch soft plastic jig. He reckons the larger patterns can attract some of the bigger fish, and rates them over the finesse tactics for specimens. With overcast conditions and a strong breeze forecast, Dan worked his way round the lake to a more sheltered bank. He could see grebes diving and had a good feeling that a perch might make an appearance. After about an hour, he felt a huge thud as he retrieved the lure and was adamant he’d hooked a pike. But when the fish surfaced, he couldn’t believe his eyes. That fish was the five-pounder, and a few days earlier, he’d landed another perch of 4lb exactly from the same water, with the two fish completing a remarkable few days’ angling.
Well done Dan!
