This record fish pushes the Wye one step closer to competing with the likes of the River Trent, which this week continued its fine form with multiple large specimen whiskers reported.

Topping the lot was a 16lb 4oz fish caught by Lincoln based specimen hunter Christopher Mendelsohn from the middle river.

Fishing a deep gravel run behind a weed bed that he had been baiting for a couple of weeks, Christopher braced the large specimen with another barbel of 14lb as well as a five chub over 5lb and a 27lb 14oz carp to mark a memorable session.

All these fish fell to double Liver and Krill boilies presented on a 6-inch Silkworm hooklink fished over a mix of hemp, tigers, maize and 3ft Twitch baits SG1 boilies.
