London Thames specialist Carl Welch enjoyed a tremendous 2012-13 season, with a succession of specimen Barbel and Chub. He’s started 2013-14 with this 7lb 4oz fish!

Carl had pre-baited a swim and used a Martin Bowler Specialist Barbel 12ft 1.75lb rod paired with an FD4000 reel, through to a Gravel Braid hooklink and an Aqua Dynamix 16mm Oyster Boilie.

“It is quite hard at the moment on the Thames, as I’ve also blanked twice, but I will just have to put my thinking head on” Carl told us.
