Over recent seasons, the fly has accounted for many large pike, with Carl Hill being one pf the latest anglers to use the tactic to devastating effect.
He banked this 36lb fish from a midlands reservoir on a Dragontail Bulkhead pattern which he fished ‘fast’ in the hope of tempting a fish after a tricky start to the session. It wasn’t long after speeding up bis retrieve that he hooked the fish, but initially, the Leicester angler didn’t think it felt particularly special. However, when it neared the boat, he quickly changed his mind! The pike went on to tail walk impressively, with its entire body out the water as it shook its head and flared its gills.Carl’s stout fly tackle did its job, and the fish was soon landed. It was quickly unhooked and weighed, with the fish beating Carl’s previous PB by 6lb.
Well done Carl!
