Canal predators don’t come much bigger than this 16lb giant zander caught by Jacob Wise.
The 38-year-old, electronics engineer, caught the monster specimen from the South-West’s Gloucester Sharpness Canal where he tempted it using a sprat deadbait fished on a scaled down wire trace mounted on a simple running leger rig.
The Stonehouse based angler, who broke his previous best of 14lb 6oz with the catch, said: “It’s the third time I have caught this fish and strangely they have all been caught when there has been a full moon. The zander in this canal tend to prefer the deeper open water than the shallow marginal areas.”
