Cameron Hughes is the early leader after Day One of the Drennan Rive Silverfish Festival with an impressive 55lb bag of roach and skimmers.
The Rive-backed angler (pictured) made no mistakes off fancied Peg 25 on the ‘high bank’ of Pollawyn fishing casters shallow at 13 metres.
Elsewhere, fishery manager Clint Elliott showed everyone he’s still got it with a 42lb 7oz bag of bream and skimmers on maggots and pinkies from Python 15. Drennan Barnsley ace Matt Godfrey was 3rd with 41lb 7oz of skimmers and roach on casters and worms from Jennys 6.
The overall champion will be decided on section points, then weight, so any of the 13 section winners from today are looking good to walk away with the £1,000 winner’s purse and a shiny new Drennan Rive seatbox.
The section winners include former world champions Didier Dellanoy, Will Raison and Alan Scotthorne in this top-class field.
