The competition saw 36 teams of five from all over Europe competing on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal in Holland over two days. The event was fished to international rules, with roach, skimmers and bream the main target. Conditions were extremely challenging with strong winds and tall waves caused by the regular passage of ocean-going ships on this huge 32km venue with widths up to 200 metres.

Drennan Barnsley Blacks managed to win Day One convincingly with just 9.5 penalty points but couldn’t quite match that feat on Day Two. Their 57.5-point total was overtaken by the talented Dutch and Preston England national feeder teams who totalled 52 and 53.5 points respectively.

The Barnsley team consisted of Glenn Lawrence, Eddie Bridon, Jamie Harrison, Sean Cameron and Richard Vaughan. Well done to all!

Eddie managed a section-winning 3.72kg on Day One and 3.39kg for 2nd in section on Day Two to take top spot on the winner’s podium. He has already been tipped by many anglers as a potential future England team member and this can only help to strengthen that case.
