On Brett Davies’ first session to the River Thames this winter, he smashed his perch PB by 15oz with this stunning 4lb 9oz specimen.

With the river pushing through, Brett methodically targeted slack water with a Ned-rigged creature bait. Four hours into the session, he made a long cast across the river, and on the third bounce of the lure he hit into a heavy fish.
Brett wondered if a small pike or a chub had taken the lure, but when it reached the near margin and caught a glimpse of stripes and red fins, he realised the enormity of the situation. After a nervy few surges, he had the fish safely in the net. Measuring 47.5cm, he says it was a ‘glorious’ river perch.
Well done Brett!
