During a recent session on a northern pit, Simon Ashton managed to land an impressive 22lb 8oz carp that picked up his maggot hookbait whilst tench fishing.

Targetting a small gravel patch in 9ft of water where he had previously seen fish roll, he baited the area with maggots, 2mm krill pellets, chili hemp, and caster before casting his rigs over the top.

Simon managed to fool the wary carp using 2oz Drennan Bolt Rig Feeders with a short hooklink of 10lb Gravel Braid and 3 artificial Buoyant Maggots presented on a hair.
