The River Trent at Gunthorpe has been on fire for big barbel this season and Beverley angler Benjamin Briggs had a great result lately, landing this 17lb 9oz PB.
Arriving at 11am, Benjamin placed one rod in an area he fancied whilst the other went in a spot recommended by a friend. It wasn’t long before his second rod hooped over but after 5 minutes his line went slack. Left with a sickening feeling, knowing he’d lost a good fish, Benjamin rebaited and cast back out.
As he fired out a few pellets, his other rod slammed round, and after a 10-minute battle he landed the seventeen-pounder that smashes his previous 15lb 5oz PB. Benjamin also landed other fish to 13lb that session, all on 14mm Frankfurter Spice pellets fished next to half a cocoon boilie.
