Belgian Victory at 20th CCF Marathon by Guido Vinck

On the beautiful reservoir ‘Lac de Rabais’ Fly Casting Club of Flanders organised the 20th International Friendship Marathon Fly Fishing. CCF is the oldest fly fishing club in Flanders/Belgium and this competition was the cherry on the cake for the club’s 40th anniversary which they celebrated 3 weeks ago. One year in advance the 36 qualified teams were already known, teams from Holland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and even from Portugal!

It was a very ‘tight’ match with 9 heats and every result from every heat counted.  The favourites did their job as they all ended in the top ten. Lac is Rabais means gin clear water, you can see every trout so you need to be very careful not to frighten the fish and make long casts.

The Belgian teams had a slight advantage because they were fishing on their home water. This classic was won by a Belgian team with T. Jamagne – Ph. Vanderostyne, followed by another member Belgian team T. Perin – C.Bazan and the bronze was for the mixed team from Belgium/Holland P. Rommelaere – J. Crooymans.  In total 385 trout were caught and no team blanked.

The price giving was one big feast thanks to the beautiful prizes donated from the sponsors. The winners received on top the very special crystal carafes and the challenge cup. Every team won a prize thanks to the sponsors Fariojan, Drennan International, G.Loomis, Beet Sportvissersmagazine, Pezon & Michel, Lac de Rabais and Shakespeare.
