Drennan Barnsley Blacks have finished just three points away from a medal in the World Club Championship.
This year’s event was fished on the River Sava in Slovenia and saw a great turnout with 30 nations involved. Catching a dace/roach-like species called vimba on the bottom in depths up to 10 metres was the main tactic, with weights averaging 3-4kg a man.
The event was won by Slovakia (Sensas Povazska Bystrica) with a convincing 37.5pts total, followed by Hungary (Perfect-Tima’r-Mix Team) on 39pts and Russia (Team Allvega) who took the bronze medal with 41pts.
Despite England finishing a consistent 4th on Day One and 3rd on Day Two, they still had to settle for a place just off the winner’s podium with 44pts. A great effort from a talented squad and on a venue that is far removed from what they are used to back home!
