Drennan star Dean Barlow has been named as one of the six-man squad heading to Ireland for this year’s World Championship.
Dean Barlow’s match record and masses of experience of fishing in the Emerald Isle means he was an obvious choice for many people. The only opinion that really matters, however, is that of the Preston Innovations England Feeder coach, Tommy Pickering, who had this to say:
“Dean is a class act and only narrowly missed being included in last year’s World Championship in South Africa. This year, I am sure he will be a great asset in Ireland and I had no hesitation in picking him for the team.”
Dean replaces Grant Albutt from last year’s squad, which also includes Steve Ringer, Phil Ringer, Mick Vials, Adam Wakelin and Tommy Pickering himself. On his call up, Dean commented:
“After being left out of the team for the 2013 World Champs, to say I was gutted is an understatement, so to get selected again is a great moment in my fishing career! All the hard work I have put in, including trips to the World Champs venue and the World Pairs in Ireland last year has truly paid off. I now have a busy year ahead and cannot wait for it!”
The World Championship is to be held on Inniscarra Lake, County Cork. This has easily been one of the most consistent venues in Ireland over the past few seasons with plenty of roach, hybrids and skimmers to target.
