Drennan’s Stewart Moss has enjoyed some terrific Autumn barbel fishing recently, capped by specimens of 14lb 8oz and 15lb 13oz.
Fishing a pressured stretch of a midlands river, mobile tactics with lots of stealth kept the fish coming through October and November. Short afternoon/evening sessions at dusk proved most effective.
The rig comprised a simple hair-rigged Oxford Carp Baits GS Crab Boilie in conjunction with a Kamasan Barbel Maxx hook, braided hooklink and a 2oz Lead, and minimal free offerings. All the fish were landed on a Drennan Martin Bowler Specialist Barbel 1.75lb rod and 15lb ESP Syncro XT line, and Stewart has been using the fantastic new Drennan Specialist 36” Landing Net.
“I’ve used a number of quite average nets for barbel fishing over the years – Drennan has taken its time before putting such a net out on the market. But it has been worth the wait because we really have got it dead right. A really well thought out design with top quality components,” remarked Stewart.
