Jon Arthur has just been crowned the 2015 UK Champion!
Jon has now won the title an astonishing three times, a record only equalled by Tom Pickering since the competition’s inception way back in 1984.
The UK Angling Championship, this year sponsored by Old Ghost, has to be one of the most prestigious individual events in British match fishing, with top names like Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Bob Nudd, Rob Wootton and Jamie Masson all etched on the trophy.
Going into the final round at Barston Lakes it was neck and neck between Myles Levy, Adam Wakelin and Jon. All three in-form men were tying on 5 points and desperately chasing a section win to secure the victory.
At the weigh in, no one was quite sure who the champion would be. Both Jon and Myles had put in quality section-winning performances, however, so it all came down to total weight. Jon’s huge 339.755kg total over four rounds proved decisive and sealed the win, a £4,000 winner’s cheque and the coveted silver claret jug trophy.
Well done Jon from everyone at Drennan!
