A trip to Scotland paid off in fine style for Leicestershire angler Andy Wilson, who landed this hard-earned 3lb 1oz grayling.

Arriving to find the river fining down after severe flooding, bites were hard to come by, but by staying mobile and spending no more than 20 minutes in a swim, he managed to track the fish down.Float fishing was his tactic of choice, and he went for an Avon-style float shotted with an olivette and a few droppers on a long rod and centrepin reel, using a floating braided line.
He fed lightly, introducing a small pinch of maggots per trot. After landing a succession of trout, a few sea trout, and even a 6lb salmon, he made his umpteenth move of the day and hooked a good grayling in a long and fairly featureless straight. After a nerve-wrecking fight, he coaxed the new PB into the waiting net to cap an enjoyable trip.
Well done Andy!
